Nitrogen fertilization based on soil nitrogen testing for grain and corn

Nitrogen (N) is essential for producing a successful, high yielding crop. Excessive N applications are costly to farm operations and may impose detrimental health and environmental problems, especially when nitrate (NO3) is leached to groundwater reserves. As well, the release of nitrous oxide (N2O), the major greenhouse gas emitted from the agricultural industry, is directly proportional to the amount of N fertilizer applied.
